Artist Statement
Every day people are stereotyped -- placed in specific groups and held to expectations or conditions they do not even know exist. They are judged for the choices they make, their manner of dress, and the lifestyles they live. I have focused on groups of people that I enjoy being around, and ironically, live in an area that I once feared. My subjects are children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, foster parents, and much more. They are loving and supportive. Even though they may not live lifestyles that are ideal to others, their happiness is genuine. The children are satisfied playing outside or at a desk with a coloring book. They have their families and friends by their side. My intent is to focus on finding the beauty of simplicity in life within an environment that may appear less traditional and idyllic.
